New Geneva Academy Podcast Series on Contemporary Issues Related to War(s)

14 October 2022

In and Around War(s) is a new podcast series of the Geneva Academy on contemporary legal issues related to wars.

‘We're excited to introduce a brand-new podcast that delves into pressing matters concerning modern armed conflicts and the intricate legal dilemmas they bring to the forefront. Episode 0 has just been released, featuring the podcast's hosts – Paola Gaeta, Antonio Coco and Ana Srovin Coralli – providing an overview of the series, its central themes, and offering a sneak peek into what you can expect from the upcoming episodes’ explains our Head of Communication Nathalie Mivelaz Tirabosco.

The series will run until December 2022 with one episode published every second Thursday. It will be available on all podcast platforms – including Amazon Music, Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Spotify, and SoundCloud – as well as on our website and YouTube Channel.

Conversations with Geneva Academy Alumni

Each episode will feature a conversation with a Geneva Academy alumna or alumnus on topical issues like terrorism, universal jurisdiction and the role of NGOs in war(s).

‘In this new podcast series, we discuss contemporary legal challenges and issues related to wars – and they are many -– via conversations with the new generation of experts and practitioners. Hearing from new voices and seeing their engagement for a better world is reassuring, enlightening and refreshing’ underlines Professor Paola Gaeta, one of the podcast’s co-hosts.

‘This podcast is aimed at practitioners, academics, students and anyone interested in legal issues surrounding war(s)’ explains Ana Srovin Coralli, Teaching Assistant at the Geneva Academy and one of the podcast co-hosts.

Focus on War(s)

Episode 0 also explains the word ‘war’ as used in the podcast’s title and focus. Professor Andrew Clapham provides in this regards insights on the contemporary significance of the term ‘war’ as opposed to ‘armed conflict’, as discussed in his recent book War.

‘We want to adopt the perspective of international law, but to make it accessible to a public of non-specialists’ says Antonio Coco, a Lecturer at the University of Essex and former student and Teaching Assistant at the Geneva Academy, and a co-host of this podcast.

Here is an insider tidbit: You may recognize Professor Clapham's distinctive voice in the podcast's introduction and conclusion!
