Contextualizing the need to ensure and protect the rights of individuals suffering from thalassaemia with a view towards raising awareness and adopting measures

A high-level panel discussion aiming to shed light on the particular human rights challenges faced by individuals suffering from thalassaemia, including unfair/discriminatory treatment in different environments and to raise awareness with regard to these challenges amongst member states and other actors.

Thalassaemia patients across the world suffer from one of the most serious inherited blood disorders, which is often not given the attention that the patients deserve. Thalassaemia and other haemoglobinopathies are present worldwide and constitute a major public health issue.
