Cette conférence co-organisée avec Swissaid, CROPS4HD et le South Centre – qui se tiendra en français en présentiel et en ligne – vise à approfondir la réflexion autour du droit aux semences en Afrique. Nous aborderons différents aspects liés à la réalisation de ce droit, notamment:

  1. La mise en œuvre de la Déclaration des Nations Unies sur les droits des paysans et des autres personnes travaillant dans les zones rurales (Déclaration UNDROP), en particulier son article 19 sur le droit aux semences
  2. L’impact des politiques semencières, de la propriété intellectuelle et des accords de libre échange sur le droit aux semences
  3. La reconnaissance juridique des systèmes semenciers paysans.

De nombreux pays africains continuent de subir des pressions pour réviser leurs lois semencières, et l’Union Africaine s’est engagée dans un processus d’harmonisation des réglementations sur les semences au niveau continental dans le contexte de la Zone de libre-échange continentale africaine. Dans ce contexte, cette conférence explorera des solutions pour protéger et promouvoir les systèmes semenciers paysans, dont est issue la vaste majorité des semences utilisées dans l’agriculture africaine et qui jouent un rôle clé dans la préservation de l’agrobiodiversité et la sécurité alimentaire en Afrique. Plusieurs publications seront présentées à cette occasion, parmi lesquelles notre Briefing The Right to Seeds in Africa, et un résumé de cette publication en français et en anglais.

The project will notably identify the main opportunities and obstacles to protect the right to seeds in Europe. It will also discuss how to promote changes in European laws, policies and trade agreements to ensure that they do not infringe, but facilitate the realization of peasants’ right to seeds.
