Concluding observations: Canada, Committee Against Torture, CAT/C/CAN/CO/6, 1 June 2012

The report found that Canada was responsible for violations of the convention in the cases of three Canadians who were held prisoner in Syria, and Omar Khadr detained at Guantanamo Bay. The committee condemned Canada for refusing to apologize and give compensation to the individuals who were tortured in Syria, and recommended that the country do so immediately. The committee also urged Canada to approve Khadr's request to be transferred from Guantanamo to Canada for the remainder of his sentence to avoid any future mistreatment, and to appropriately compensate him.

Concluding observations: Canada, Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, CERD/C/CAN/CO/19-20, 9 March 2012
