The future of the United Nations Human Rights Council

The Human Rights Council was created in 2006 by United Nations General Assembly Resolution 60/251. Its work will be reviewed in 2011. The Geneva Academy is establishing an online Resource Library on the Review of the Human Rights Council, to be launched in  early 2011. This website will include relevant public reports and documents on the work of the Human Rights Council, including academic and policy studies and media articles. It will be a useful resource for researchers and those working on the Human Rights Council. The staff at the Geneva Academy continue to engage in the review process, including through participation in relevant governmental and other meetings and conferences.

Expertise in the Human Rights Council

A policy paper by Kamelia Kamileva, Benjamin Lee, Claire Mahon and Chris Sidoti, prepared under the auspices of the Geneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights.
This Study contains 25 proposals for ensuring a more effective use of human rights expertise in the work of the UN Human Rights Council. It is designeed to inform the review process for the UN Human Rights Council.
The Study was commissioned by the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs.
