Louise Doswald-Beck, Professor, IHEID
Assistant: Tom Haeck

Course Description

This course complements the compulsory course in international humanitarian law by examining some rules that are not, or are only very briefly, dealt with in the compulsory course. The subjects covered will be looked at from the point of view of IHL, taking into account other relevant sources of international law. Therefore, the first two weeks will include relevant rules of international human rights law, and developments by the United Nations Security Council. Week 3 on cultural property will then take into account the World Heritage Convention, and Week 4 will additionally include some basic rules, stemming from environment law, that are equally applicable in armed conflict.
